Covid-19: Positivity rate at 5.7 per cent after 111 new cases

The Ministry of Health has announced 111 new cases of Covid-19 from a sample size of 1,948 that were tested in the last 24 hours. These new cases represent a 5.7 per cent positivity rate.

This brings the cumulative number of positive cases in the country to 168.543 while the cumulative tests conducted are 1,783,374.

In terms of recoveries, 142 patients have been given a clean bill of health. 137 of whom were from home based isolation and care while the remaining five were discharged from various health facilities.

This now brings the total cases of recoveries to 114,679 of whom 83,354 are from home based isolation and care while 31,326 were discharged from various hospital.

A total of 1,086 as of Monday were admitted to various health facilities over Covid-19.

4,770 patients are under the home based isolation and care program.

The Ministry of Health has also announced that 121 patients are in the ICU with 25 of them on ventilatory support while 68 on supplemental oxygen. 28 patients are under observation.

86 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 79 of them in general wards and 7 in High Dependency Units (HDU).

Sadly, 14 deaths have been recorded within the last 24 hours. The deaths were discovered after conducting facility record audits in the last month.

The number of deaths now shoot to 3,073.

Distribution of the new cases as per counties is as follows; Nairobi 52, Machakos 11, Kisii 9, Siaya 7, Kericho 5, Homa Bay, Mombasa and Kiambu 4 cases each, Mandera 3, Nyeri and Migori 2 cases each, Kisumu, Kwale, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu and Kilifi 1 case each.

On vaccination, the ministry has announced that a total of 954,515 persons have so far been vaccinated against the COVID-19 disease countrywide.
