Former Head of Public Service and current Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia has said Deep State has power to influence presidential election results in Kenya.

Kimemia said the Deep State works all the way to the polling station level and it is difficult to defeat a popular candidate with its backing.

“All I can say is that Deep State works. The voters vote, Deep State also includes people in the villages. It goes up to the polling station and it doesn’t necessarily mean rigging," Kimemia said when he appeared on Citizen TV on Tuesday morning.

Kimemia, however, said the candidate being supported by the Deep State must be credible and electable.

"The State exists, but I can assure you it could be deeper than deep. If you have two candidates at the rate of 50:50 and the Deep State backs one, you can be sure than one will win," he added.

He said the backing of a candidate by the international community cannot be gainsaid.

"This country has a lot of interest from the international community and that influence election a lot. If they combine with the Deep State, you can be sure your goose is cooked," he said.
