Gender and Culture Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has expressed concern over the rising femicide cases, saying it is a national security threat.

Jumwa has consequently called on the Interior ministry to swing into action and curb the deaths, saying the trend is worrying.

Speaking in Kandara when she graced a bursary issuance ceremony event hosted by the Murang’a Woman Rep Betty Maina, the CS urged security apparatus to get to the root cause of the matter and leave no stone unturned.

“This issue of our young girls being killed should be declared a national security threat and we want quick action taken to address it,” said Jumwa. “I believe our security agents have the capacity to delve deeper into the matter, give us answers and find all the culprits who are involved in the killings,” she added.

She said she has already written to the Inspector General of Police seeking to have a meeting with him alongside religious leaders, university and colleges leaders to help address the matter.

Nominated Senator Veronica Maina said detectives should give straight answers on the investigation they are conducting.

Maina said with rumors that some of the people involved in the killings could be engaging in organ trafficking, no chances should be taken.

“We want a detailed report on who is targeting our young girls and why they are being killed,” said Maina.

Nominated MP Sabina Chege called for thorough vetting of foreigners getting into the country, pointing out that since Kenya became visa free criminals could have taken advantage.

“We should know who is coming into the country and the purpose of their visit so as to weed out those who could be having other negative missions,” said Chege.
