DNA confirms Murunga fathered child of lover
DNA samples taken from the late Matungu MP Justus Murunga show he is the biological father of one of Agnes Wangui’s two children.
Wangui, who claimed to be a lover of the late MP, moved court late last month seeking recognition of her two children —a boy and a girl — as Murunga’s biological children.
“Based on the DNA profiles generated from buccal swab samples obtained from the minor (boy) and Justus Murunga, Justus Murunga is excluded as the biological father of the child,” read the DNA analysis.
Pathologists M Mwangi and Dr PM Maturi conducted the DNA sampling based on the DNA samples generated from swab samples obtained from the two children.
DNA analysis for the girl shows that there are 99 per cent chances that Murunga is the father.
“Based on the DNA profiles generated from buccal swab samples obtained from the minor (girl) and Justus Murunga, there are 99.9 per cent more chances that Justus Murunga is the biological father of the child,” read the DNA analysis.
Checking up on MP
The boy is aged seven years and the girl is aged three years.
She had accused the two widows of the MP Christabel Murunga and Grace Murunga of being in a concerted effort to deny her and her children access and participation in the burial arrangements and the actual burial event.
The woman had explained that prior to his death, she had spoken to the late MP on 12 November checking up on him after being discharged from Hospital.
“He sent me Sh1,300 for gas refill and later Sh4,000 as maintenance cost,” she claimed in court documents.
She alleged to have known the late MP for seven years and they were blessed with the two children.
“I first encountered the deceased in the year 2012 when he was a Supervisor at Embakasi Ranching Scheme, and I was a businesswoman engaged in rendition of beverages and snacks within Sewage area, Ruai,” she had claimed in court documents.
“The deceased used to pay our monthly rent and maintenance costs for the child by channeling the amounts to my Mpesa numbers,” she claimed.
Lawyer Danstan Omari who represents the woman, yesterday said he will be filling a succession case and although the DNA results for the boy are negative, he is a dependent who the late supported.
“The mother will be declared a wife for the purpose of succession and because there is no will they will be entitled to equal shares of the estate,” he said.
According to the lawyer the two kids qualify as the children of the late MP having voluntarily assumed parental responsibility and by virtue of her being the biological child of the deceased respectively.
“The mother one Agnes Wangui Wambiri qualifies as a dependent having been maintained by Justus Murunga (deceased) prior to his death,” he stated.
The MP was buried on December 5, at his home in Matungu constituency, Kakamega county after the court lifted the restraining order of November 27 allowing his family to proceed with the burial preparations.
