DP Ruto unveils UDA party candidate for Kiagu Ward by-election in Meru
Deputy President William Ruto has unveiled the UDA party candidate for the Kiagu Ward by-election slated for October 14, 2021.
IEBC gazetted the by-election date on July 27. Three by-elections including for Eldas, Kiagu and Nguu/Masumba ward will be held on the same date.
The DP took to his social media handle to thank UDA party aspirants for accepting to rally behind Simon Kiambi Ngaruni who won the party polls.
He announced that UDA party politicians from Meru County and their supporters will drum up support for Ngaruni so that he clinches the seat.
“Special mention to Waheshimiwa Richard Mwangi, Daniel Mawira Miriti, Denis Kiogora, Bonface Munene Mureithi and Jimmy Kinyua for their courage, political maturity and leadership in accepting the Kiagu Ward UDA Party polls results.
“We undertake to combine our efforts with Meru politicians and grassroots leaders, and rally behind the Hustler candidate Simon Kiambi Ngaruni in the forthcoming by-election,” the DP said.
DP Ruto met the UDA party candidate together with other aspirants who unsuccessfully sought the party ticket. He managed to convince them to support Ngaruni.
Other Meru leaders present at the meeting include MPs Moses Kirima (Central Imenti), John Mutunga (Tigania West), Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), Mithika Linturi (Meru), Gichunge Kabeabea (Tigania East) and Halima Mucheke (nominated) in Karen, Nairobi.
The DP will be hoping to replicate his party’s impressive performance in the Kiambaa by-election where UDA party trounced Jubilee party in the parliamentary seat by-election.
The by-elections have been used as a test-run for 2022 General Elections and the DP has been keen on the Mt Kenya region where he wants to prove he commands a huge following.
It is not clear yet whether the Jubilee party will field a candidate in the mini-poll.
The by-election was occasioned by the death of former officeholder Eunice Karegi.
She succumbed to cancer at a city hospital on May 27, 2021.
