DP: We’ll not allow selfish leaders to hijack Building Bridges Initiative
Deputy President William Ruto had said he will not allow the Building Bridges Initiative to be hijacked by leaders who want to drive their own political agenda.
Ruto said the debate ought to be handled with sobriety, as it shall have a long lasting impact on the country’s political and economic development.
Speaking in Kandara, Murang’a during the burial of Benson Gitau Mwaura, Ruto claimed some leaders have made it a political tool to gain political mileage.
“We are going to ensure the debate is handled appropriately and the final outcome will be acceptable to all,” he said.
He said currently the government has two main agendas of uniting people and bringing development.
MPs Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Kimani Ichung’wa (Kikuyu Town), Alice Wahome (Kandara), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), who had accompanied him said they will also support the BBI as long it addresses the issues affecting the common man.
Kuria said leaders from Mt Kenya might differ on political affiliation but they are going to have a common approach towards the BBI.
“I think during the convention at Bomas we all agreed the BBI is okay so I don’t understand why we are having sideshows,” he added.
The MP said there is no need to spend a lot of resources campaigning for BBI as the leaders have unanimously agreed to support it.
Fund projects
“This money should be used to fund other projects that can help the Kenyans,” he said.
Ichung’wa on the other hand said the biggest problem the country’s leadership is facing is deceit and conmanship.
“The ultimate solution to the stability of this country will only be realised after we stabilise the economy and make the lives of our people better” he added.
