Duale reveals compensation granted to families of fallen soldiers
Interior Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has revealed the amount paid to kin of fallen soldiers in case they during in the line of duty.
Speaking before the Senate on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, Duale revealed that families receive Ksh4 million in case the soldier dies within the country and USD50,000 (Ksh7.4 million) in case they die during the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
"The family will receive Ksh4 million within our country and at ATMIS the UN gives USD 50,000," Duale said.
He said that the compensation is disbursed to the family within a week after the death of the soldier.
"Families who have lost their loved ones are entitled to a compensation package that includes financial support which is promptly disbursed within a week," he added.
The CS revealed that the government is building more training bases near the borders as a way of "devolving" the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
"I agree that we are devolving KDF we have two sites in West Pokot, four sites in Turkana and we are in Marsabit and Mandera and building more training bases mainly in our borders," he added.

Duale also said that the government is investing heavily in modern equipment for KDF.
"I want to assure the Country under the leadership of the President our Commander in Chief we have heavily invested in buying armoured vehicles that will protect our troops from IUDs. We are investing heavily in the modernization of our Security forces from intelligence to the police," he added.
