eKitabu announces 2019 essay contest winners

Organisers of the Digital Essay Competition, eKitabu, last week announced winners of the seventh annual contest.

The competition that run from April through August 2019 saw over 13,500 students from all 47 counties write essays on how technology can help solve problems in their schools.  

Will Clurman, CEO of eKitabu, said the 2019 winners had essays submitted in Kiswahili, English, French, Art, Braille, German and Kenyan Sign languages for both upper primary and secondary levels.  

Winners received computing devices, scholarships, gift hampers and other prizes from eKitabu and other sponsors.

Top 20 essays in English and Kiswahili categories in primary and secondary levels will be published by Pearson, a partner and will be available on www.ekitabu.com.  

Sheyma Mohamed Ali Salai of Mnara Junior Academy, Garissa won the top prize for primary schools in the English category while Gichuru Angel Joy Wanjiru from Alliance Girls High School was the winner for secondary schools.

Elizabeth Awoton Chibile from Kang’alita Primary in Turkana and Mebo Eileen from Lugulu Girls School in Bungoma took home the Kiswahili category award.

The best essays in Sign language came from Warren Mbugua from Kambui School for the Deaf in Kiambu and Cynthia Atieno from St Clare Ebukuya Secondary for the Hearing Impaired in Vihiga in primary and secondary schools respectively.

Precious Kalumu Kasongoa of Kitengela International School, Kajiado county and Tracylyne Kemunto from Moi Girls High School, Eldoret won in French Category for primary and secondary schools respectively.

In the art category, Godwin Kiprop of Chavakali High School in Vihiga and David Jackson of Milimani Primary in Nairobi took the top positions while Ivone Asasi from Goibei Girls High School in Vihiga County won the German prize.
