Young people across the country have been urged to embrace technological skills for them to remain relevant in the contemporary job market.

Experts and scholars insist that embracing the digital revolution will go a long way in helping address the joblessness crisis that has plunged many youths into depression and in some cases resulted in suicidal cases.

Fred Oanda Nyambane, the director in charge of accreditation at Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) urged the youth to appreciate the importance of digital technology in their quest for jobs and self-improvement to become self-reliant.

Speaking during the graduation of over 200 medical graduands from Tricent Medical College in Juja, Oanda reiterated the need for young people to refocus their job mentality by seeking to gain technology-enabled skills that will qualify them to become self-employed rather than waiting for limited white-collar jobs.

“Young people need to embrace the use of new technologies for them to secure credible jobs online and earn decent incomes,” noted Oanda.

His sentiments were echoed by Dennis Oketch, the director of Tricent Medical College who observed that emerging technologies are shaping the future and urged the youth to seek to be equipped to participate in the digital economy.

Oketch at the same time urged the government to consider identifying and remunerating nursing assistants who are often forgotten despite the huge role they play in the health sector.

Oketch at the same time urged the government to consider identifying and remunerating nursing assistants who are often forgotten despite the huge role they play in the health sector.

“For a long time, nurse assistants have not been recognized by the government despite the huge role they play in the provision of healthcare services across the country. We urge the government to recognise their services and while at it, pay them as a motivator,” said Oketch.

Elsewhere, Zetech University Vice Chancellor Prof Njenga Munene urged students pursuing various courses in higher learning institutions to embrace technology as an added advantage in their career. The VC stated that creativity, being innovative and being well versed with the relevant technology will give students a competitive edge.
