Emurua Dikirr MP Ng’eno now released on Sh1m bail
Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno was yesterday granted a Sh2 million bond or an alternative cash bail of Sh1 million after a two-day incarceration at the Nakuru GK Prison.
Ng’eno was further barred from making public utterances that may incite violence, stir ethnic contempt and infringe on the rights of other citizens in the area.
Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Usui while releasing the legislator, noted that the prosecution had failed to provide compelling reasons to meet the required threshold warranting detention for more days.
On threat to security in the Mau complex, the magistrate stated that no evidence had been provided that the MP had in any way been charged or convicted in the past for utterances that led to skirmishes at the forest.
According to Usui, the accused being a member of parliament, is not a flight risk since his place of abode is known adding that the police are at liberty to re-arrest him if he makes utterances that could lead to breach of peace or incitement.
She added that claims of witness interference are minimal since the names have already been set out at the charge sheet with only one being a civilian, whereas others are police officers and officials from the Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK).
“I am not convinced by the prosecutions submissions to deny the accused bond, it will be undesirable to allow him carry other people’s cross that he fanned the Mau skirmishes.
