Government sets record straight over night travel after lifting of curfew
The government has announced lifting of night travel ban imposed last year.
In a statement, Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia said public service vehicles can now operate at night but must adhere to the COVID-19 containment measures issued by the Ministry of Health.
“We are encouraging members of the transport fraternity to embrace Covid-19 vaccination in line with the sector," he said.
Macharia said the move would fast-track economic recovery.
"I thank the leadership and the workers in the transport sector for their relentless support to the government efforts of mitigating he spread of Covid-19 virus," he said.
Kenyans on Mashujaa Day welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s move to lift the 19-month nationwide dusk-to-dawn curfew.
A huge gathering that attended the 58th Mashujaa Day celebrations at Wang’uru stadium in Kirinyaga County broke into ululations when the Head of State closed his speech with the announcement that he had lifted the curfew which has been blamed for the loss of livelihoods and businesses since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country in March last year.
There was more good news for Kenyans as the President also unveiled a raft of interventions – 13 in total – to cushion Kenyans against the ravages of the pandemic.
