Gunmen shot dead police officer at Suswa

Unknown gunmen shot dead a police officer before stealing his AK 47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition at Suswa Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station Section 9.

The gunmen, who were driving in a white Toyota Fielder registration number KCT 069C then proceeded to the cash office where they stole an empty cash box, thinking it had money.

The in-charge of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station Section 9 Inspector Joseph Gethi said they heard some gunshots from the main gate at around 10.30am and when they went to check what was happening.

At the scene, they found Constable Jona Too lying unconscious with a gunshot wound on the head.

The officer was rushed to Olubwani Medical clinic at Suswa but was confirmed dead by the doctors.

Eye witnesses said the three gunmen, all armed with pistols shot the man then proceeded to the cash office.

Reports indicate that the station was to be closed today and the thugs believed there was money in the cash office.

Detectives led by the Commandant Railways and his DCI counterpart visited the scene and recovered three spent cartridges of 9mm calibre and the stolen AK47’s sling.

Few hours later, the same vehicle was spotted in Nairobi but by 4pm today, they had not been arrested.
