The head of the Orthodox Church has challenged Kenya and Africa as a whole to come up with permanent food security solutions.

Pope Theodores 11 who is the Patriarch of Alexandria and All of Africa regretted that millions of people in Africa are starving despite the continent's potential to produce enough food for both domestic use and export.

He singled out Kenya which he noted is endowed with large arable land which should be exploited to the maximum.

Speaking at Thogoto Orthodox church through a translator, he said "We toured Turkana and met with the reality of drought and hunger and we pray that God provides rains in order to save the situation but long-term solutions should be sought."

Echoing the Pope, Bishop Panaritos Kimani said the current dry season is a lesson to the government and all people that the country needs to improve its strategies.

“The dry season has affected so many people including our animals. We need as a country to learn from this season so that we can come up with a last solution that we can produce enough for us, for sale and to store” he said.

The church’s secretary general Gibson Mburu said the Pope is in the country to commemorate the founder of the Thogoto branch the late Bishop George Arthur Gathuna.

"He is also in the country to celebrate his name and unveil a new bishop of Nyeri dioceses on Sunday, " the Secretary-General said.

He commended the Pope and the church for initiating numerous health and educational support which have impacted positively the lives of thousands of Kenyans.

The Orthodox Church Pope at the same time praised President William Ruto for his commitment to serving the country and putting God first.

He applauded Kenyans for keeping peace at all times which has seen them coexisting saying peace makes people work, trade, move around within the country and it also ensures freedom.

“We visited the Head of State on Thursday. We learned about his passion to serve the country and ensuring that there is peace and he was also supporting the church missions. Kenyans too are also peaceful, they should continue embracing it for the prosperity of this country” he said.
