Renowned media personality Jeff Koinange yesterday revealed he had tested positive for coronavirus, attracting an outpouring of support from his admirers.

Koinange, who hosts the Jeff Koinange Show Live on Citizen television, made his status public through his Twitter handle and said he had not developed any symptoms associated with the disease.

“Folks, just to let you know, I have tested POSITIVE for Covid-19. I am doing good . . . No symptoms … and my family is fine.

All my close contacts have been informed. Right now I’m in self-isolation,” he said.

According to the Ministry of Health, up to 80 per cent of Kenya’s Covid-19 cases are either asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.

Jeff’s announcement came on the day popular actor Charles Bukeko, popularly known as Papa Shirandula, whose show ran on the Royal Media Services owned Citizen TV, was laid to rest after succumbing to Covid-19 on Friday.

Another journalist from the same media house, Stephen Letto, also tested positive for Covid-19 last week after undergoing tests at Nairobi Hospital.

Koinange’s announcement also came on the day the number of people who have tested positive for Covid in Kenya rose to 13, 771 after 418 new cases were reported.

A total of 246, 361 people have so far been tested, with Nairobi remaining the epicentre of the disease with 7, 744 positive cases.

Koinange’s friends and fans took to his social media pages to wish him a quick recovery.

“You’ll be fine my brother,” said his colleague Willis Raburu.

His fans such as @marcus ngambi took the chance to share their experience.

“I tested positive sometimes back, didn’t have any symptoms. After 21 days I was back to work like nothing happened. You’ll be fine Jeff.”

Koinange’s weekly current affairs programme involves one-on-one interviews with newsmakers across the board.

Other renowned media personalities who have tested positive for Covid-19 include CNN anchors Richard Quest and Chris Cuomo.
