Kajiado governor Joseph Ole Lenku has surprised many when he campaigned for his reelection in 2022 by referring to himself as a 'chef', a tag his opponents have always used to demean him while he denied the tag.

Speaking at Kyang'ombe area Kitengela on Friday evening when he officially launched a new public school-Likimani primary school, Lenku who openly campaigned at Kitengela for the first time told residents that he is a development chef.

He said his opponents are fond of referring to his projects as hotels but the projects are a reflection of the goodies that come with food that is prepared and served by chefs.

"Just because I was the boss at the Kenya Utalii College, my political enemies have nicknamed me a chef. That tag is not a problem anymore, work is work. I am no longer bothered by the tag but focused to deliver on my manifesto," said Lenku

Lenku confessed that he performed dismally in Kajiado East sub county in the 2017 elections expressing optimism that his development record will endear him to electorates in the forthcoming general elections.

"The modern Kitengela market is almost complete because my government is geared towards empowering the business community through giving a conducive working environment. We as a county purchased this piece of land and set up a public school to improve access to education to needy parents. Will you walk this journey with me or you will leave me alone with my God?I urge you as residents to walk this journey with me,"said Lenku.

This was the first time governor Lenku openly campaigned in the populous town.

"I have strived to unite the people of Kajiado through equal distribution of resources. I have also liaised to work with the national government to address water scarcity in this town. Kitengela has a significant number of women leaders in my government as a measure to empower women. Today I am delighted to ask for you support in 2022, "he said.

Accompanied by chief administration secretary (CAS) in the ministry of transport Wavinya Ndeti and a host of members of County assembly (Mcas), Lenku took time to name non Maasais working in his administration as a way to proof to residents that his government is all inclusive.

In a well crafted political move, Wavinya who addressed the Kamba community in vernacular rallied her Kamba community to support Lenku leadership.

"As leaders let us drop hard political positions and focus on uniting Kajiado,’’said Lenku

Lenku pledged to Kitengela residents that he will heavily invest in the new school to ensure the institution is expanded up to secondary level.

In what is seen as a full blast campaign strategy that targets to woe residents in the populous town,Lenku moved in earnest to reshuffle his cabinet members naming Michael Semera who comes from the region as the county executive committee member of the powerful finance docket.

Semera was previously serving as the Cec of water and natural resources.
