Head of Judiciary Police Unit Lazarus Opicho has beef up security of High Court judge Justice Antony Mrima who claimed his life was in danger following his decision to jail Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti for four months over contempt of court.

Opicho said security of all judges was paramount and he could not take the claims by Justice Mrima lightly.

He said he acted following a request by the Chief Justice Martha Koome who asked his office to reinforce the security of the judge.

"The security of judges and judicial officers is of utmost priority to the Judiciary.

"Because of this centrality, and in conjunction with the Inspector General, National Police Service, the Chief Justice established the Judiciary Police Unit to support the security needs of Judges and Judicial Officers," Opicho said in a statement.

The unit boss said he was in touch with Justice Mrima.

"In the meantime, I have also requested Justice Mrima to make a formal complaint to the police by giving details to facilitate enforcement agencies to commence investigations against this serious allegation," he added.
