President William Ruto has promised that members of Kandara Residents Association will get a share of the land ceded by Del Monte fruit processing company.

Ruto said the Ministry of Lands will process the title deeds for the parcels of land with the county government getting a portion for development projects while residents will also get a share.

“We will get the title deed for the company for the land under lease, have the ceded land shared between the county government and the residents so that they can get justice,” he remarked.

The tussle over the land between the company and the residents has been on for decades with the latter demanding to be given back the land that was allegedly grabbed.

They said the government should not renew the land lease for the company and they should instead be resettled on the land.

Del Monte ceded 1,400 acres of land to the Murang’a County government but the association claimed to have been edged out.

Speaking during a tour of Murang’a, the President said the government will establish a special economic zone for the manufacturing of pharmaceutical and medical equipment to be used in the country and for export.

Ruto also commissioned the Maragua bulk water project which will serve approximately 10,000 households.

And in a move that is expected to bring to and end a tussle between two water companies, he directed that the project be handed over the Murang’a Water and Sanitation Company (MUWASO) which is under the county government.
