Karimenu Dam Project to be complete by March 2022 – Water CS Sicily Kariuki

Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki says that the ongoing Karimenu II dam project that is expected to benefit one million residents of Nairobi and its environs will be complete by March 2022.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the project in Kiambu County, the CS said the project will bring an additional 70 million litres of water per day.

Karimenu II dam is a Vision 2030 flagship project and an enabler of the national government’s Big Four Agenda.

It entails construction of a 59m high dam, construction of 70 million litres per day water treatment plant, laying of 67 km of raw and treated water transmission pipelines and construction of two concrete water storage tanks in Ruiru and Juja each with a total capacity of 28.5 million litres.

The project is being implemented by Athi Water Works Development Agency.

The CS was flanked by Athi Water Works CEO Eng. Michael Thuita, the area Deputy County Commissioner, among other officials.
