KeNHa issues advisory to motorists as River Rongai bursts banks

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a cautionary notice to motorists and pedestrians regarding the use of the Kampi ya Moto-Eldama Ravine (B77) Road.

According to KeNHA, River Rongai has overflowed its banks, leading to overtopping at Rongai Junction. KeNHA advises against attempting to cross this section of the road and urges users to patiently wait for the water levels to recede.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to alert the public that Rongai River has burst its banks overtopping Rongai Junction along Kampi ya Moto - Eldama Ravine (B77) Road," KeNHA warned.

The Authority emphasizes the importance of road user safety and advises against any attempts to use the affected section until further notice.

"The Authority cautions road users against any attempts to use this section of the road in the interest of their safety. Members of the public are advised to be patient until the water levels recede," KeNHA announced.

In addition to the caution for the Kampi ya Moto-Eldama Ravine (B77) Road, KeNHA also advises travelers using the Garsen-Witu-Lamu (A7) Road to exercise vigilance, especially between Idsowe (Tana River Bridge) and Gamba/Lango la Simba.

Heavy rainfall upstream has resulted in rising water levels in the Tana River, leading to flooding of the fields along the road. KeNHA anticipates that continued downpour may further exacerbate road conditions, potentially impacting safe transportation.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to inform the public to exercise caution between Idsowe (Tana River Bridge) and Gamba/Lango la Simba as they use the Garsen- Witu- Lamu (A7) Road," KeNHA stated.

"This follows the ongoing heavy downpour being experienced upstream that has resulted in rising water levels in Tana River and consequent flooding of the fields along the Road," KeNHA added.

The public is urged to prioritize safety and to heed the advice of security officers patrolling the area. KeNHA reassures the public that ensuring the safety of road users remains their utmost priority.

"We anticipate that with increased and continued downpour the Road might eventually be overtopped thus hampering safe transportation. The public is advised to exercise patience and follow the advice of the security officers manning the Road as they traverse through this section. The safety of the public on our roads remains our utmost priority," the statement concluded.
