Kenya to set up Joint Ministerial Committee with Brazil

President William Ruto has announced plans to set up a Joint Ministerial Committee with Brazil.

This comes moments after Ruto met the President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, commonly known as Lula, during the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Lula is a guest speaker at the assembly.

Ruto revealed that the committee will oversee cooperation between the two nations in areas of agricultural production and technology, education, trade and commerce.

"Kenya will strengthen its diplomatic relations with Brazil and target increased investment in agricultural production and technology, education, trade and commerce. The two countries will also set up a Joint Ministerial Committee," Ruto stated.

Ruto revealed that Brazil, the current G20 Chair, has also committed to support Africa's development agenda.

Brazil President speaks

In a statement, Lula termed Africa as an extraordinary space of future for the world.

"I would like Brazil to be clear that we need to have a central relationship with the African continent. Not only because Africa is part of our culture and our roots, but because it is an extraordinary space of future for the world," Lula stated.

Lula says that during the meeting with Ruto, they discussed Africa's potential to expand its food and clean energy production and how they can build partnerships in this sense.

"I participated in a bilateral meeting with the president of Kenya William Ruto, to discuss relations between our countries. We talked about Africa's potential to expand its food and clean energy production and how Brazil can build partnerships in this sense," he said.

Lula also revealed that he has invited Ruto to visit the South American country with a Kenyan delegation of businesspeople to expand trade and investment between the two countries
