Key suspect in Tirop murder denies charge

Ibrahim Rotich, the prime suspect in the murder of star athlete Agnes Tirop yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Rotich (pictured), was charged after a mental assessment report from the
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital indicated that he was fit to stand murder trial.
Appearing before Eldoret High Court judge Reuben Nyakundi, Rotich
41, denied killing Tirop on October 12, this year at Rural estate at the outskirts of Iten town, ElgeyoMarakwet County.
Through his lawyer Joseline Mitei, Rotich pleaded with the court to grant him bail pending the hearing and determination of the case.
But the prosecution led by David, Fedha told the court they had already
filed an affidavit, opposing Rotich’s release on bond.
The prosecution in the affidavit cites flight risk as one of the reasons why
Rotich should not be released on bail.
Justice Nyakundi directed that the defence files a reply to the prosecution’s affidavit and that a prebail report be prepared in 14 days.
Tirop’s two sisters, a brother and her father were present in court.
