A Kitale businessman was Sunday night shot dead at his Bidii home in Kwanza sub county unclear circumstances.

Jacob Omondi, 62, was shot four times in the chest after a gang of armed men stormed his home and shot at him from a close range while feeding his dogs, a police statement said.

Omondi is a dealer in spray painting and panel beating  and though the motive of his killing is not yet established, spend cartridges left behind and some clothes may lead to the arrest of the assailants.

The suspected killers of the businessman are believed to have followed him from Kitale Town and are said to have found him feeding his pets outside the house before opening fire on him, leaving him in a pool of blood.

According to a family member of the slain businessman who was in the house when the incident happened, the gunshots heard from outside must have been from people with the knowledge of his whereabout.

"When I rushed out to see what had happened, I found his body in a pool of blood and efforts of taking him to hospital failed after realizing he had succumbed to the gun shots," said a relative.

Bidii location’s chief  Julius Onyancha asked residents to liaise with the Nyumba kumi initiative members in volunteering  information that would lead to the arrest of those suspected of crime.

The body of the slain businessman was taken to Kitale county hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
