Kuppet polls in homestretch as candidates campaign on social media
Contestants in the Kenya Union Of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) elections in Trans Nzoia County have chosen the social media for campaigns as the polls enter final stretch.
The candidates are actively using social media to get their campaign messaging across to would-be voters as the 2021 election winds down to the remaining one week.
Speaking on the People Daily at St. Emmanuel Secondary School in Kwanza Sub county over the weekend, the candidates said they had combined efforts targeting the capability of digital media to create awareness among 2000 members of the union expected to vote on February 20.
Among those fighting to retain their coveted positions in the polls are the Executive Secretary Luwseti Furaha, Treasurer Wakasiaka Mwichabe, Chairman Eliud Wafula who are facing stiff competition from a team of young Turks championing for generational change.
Lusweti is facing Barasa Wabwoba and Victor Kipchirchir while Wakasiaka is facing stiff challenge from Juliana Miheso who is banking on the gender balance to sail through while David Osiany is contesting the chairmanship against Eliud Wafula.
"We want to ensure that teachers have value for their Subscriptions and regain the lost respect in society. Gone are the days when teachers were looked down upon. We are going to bring about a desired change that we have been yearning for, and we are the team,’’ Said Miheso.
George Agoro who is vying for the seat of assistant executive secretary asked Teachers to turn up in large numbers and elect a new leadership that will champion for their interest.
Kimutai Kaye, Immaculate cheserem and Navalayo Wafula who are vying for positions of organizing secretary, gender and secretary secondary respectively called for an end to mudslinging during campaigns.
"The recent upsurge in the use of derogatory talk against others, especially ladies are alarming and threaten to cause disrespect for the women's gender. We are calling on those who intend to cause chaos during elections next week to stop their antics,’’ said Cheserem.
Kimutai asked for calm and asked teachers to rise up above tribal inclinations when voting for their representatives.
