Leaders eulogise Dori as dedicated public servant

President Uhuru Kenyatta, his deputy William Ruto and Opposition leader Raila Odinga yesterday mourned Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori who died yesterday morning.
The MP, who died at the Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa where he was undergoing treatment for cancer, was buried yesterday afternoon at Gazi Muslim cemetery in Msambweni. He was 42.
Uhuru described Dori as an astute leader who served his constituents with commitment.
“We have lost a young, committed and brave leader who carried a lot of hope and who was a friend to many,” the President said, adding that the second-term MP was a dependable steward and defender of public interest.
Ruto described Dori as ambitious, ingenious and committed to public service.
“Mheshimiwa Dori was indomitable, a moral enthusiast whose leadership advocated for justice,” the DP tweeted.
Raila sent his condolences to the people of Msambweni and the MP’s family.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the people of Msambweni and family of Ramadhani Suleiman Dori.
May the lord grant his family comfort at this difficult moment and may his soul rest in peace,” Raila wrote on his Twitter handle.
Dori was one of the ODM politicians from the Coast region who had switched alliance to the ruling Jubilee but was “pardoned” by the Orange party which had threatened to kick him out of Parliament.
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi led Coast leaders in mourning Dori who was also the Coast Parliamentary Group chairman.
Joho, who is ODM deputy party leader, said Dori was a courageous politician who dedicated his life to community service.
National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi said Dori served his constituents with dedication and commitment.
“It is with profound sadness that I have learnt of the untimely demise of Msambweni MP, Hon. Ramadhani Suleiman Dori this morning. My heartfelt condolences to his family and his constituents,” said Muturi.
National Assembly Leader of Majority Aden Duale posted on Twitter: “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raj’iun (We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return).”
Senate minority leader James Orengo and National Assembly’s Minority Whip Junet Mohammed also sent condolences to the people of Msambweni and the MP’s family.
“To the people of Msambweni and the family, please accept my deepest condolences and know that God loves you and will restore your spirits, give you peace, and strengthen you. RIP Dori,” Orengo, who is the Siaya Senator, said.
MPs Mohammed Ali (Nyali), Charles Njagua (Starehe), Ndidi Nyoro (Kiharu), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Otiende Amollo (Rarieda), Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura and Nairobi Women Rep Esther Passaris also mourned their colleague.
HAKI Africa, a human rights group described Dori as a great friend and leader.
“His dedication to community service was unmatched. We have lost a true son of the nation and a great defender of the people of Coast region,” the organisation said on its social media pages.
A childhood friend of Dori, Sharifa Kassim Mamzandi, described him as a hard working person who was devoted to helping the youth and women in his constituency and other parts of the Coast region.
“He kept his promises. We will remember him for helping women groups,” said Mwamzandi.
