Former Lang’ata parliamentary aspirant Stanley Livondo was yesterday grilled over claims he made on Saturday that there had been attempts on the life of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Livondo, however, maintained that what he said was true and asked detectives to conduct thorough investigations.

“I am a leader and I cannot speak lies,” he said.

Livondo said he had furnished the detectives with all the evidence including documents, verbal, satellite images and others.

He claimed that some of those who knew about the plot had been killed.

He added that some of the witnesses were out of the country but were ready to come and testify.

Livondo urged the authorities to offer protection to witnesses, including himself.

Serious crimes

Speaking at the thanksgiving ceremony of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, the flamboyant politician claimed that an unnamed senior government official tried to assassinate the President.

Livondo was summoned to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) where his statement was recorded by detectives attached to the Serious Crimes Unit (SCU).

The Head of SCU Obadiah Kuria summoned Livondo for grilling and statement recording yesterday at 2 pm and the politician honoured the summons.

“I have reasons to believe that you, Hon. Stanley Livondo is connected to the offences after the utterances or have information which can assist me in my investigations,” Kuria wrote.

The DCI seeks to confirm the veracity of the claims and get more information to assist in further investigations.

Ruto response

Livondo had claimed that the President was aware of the plans and upon learning the sinister plans, he broke ranks with the official.

While he did not name the official, it is believed he was referring to Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking at St John Catholic Church in Igembe South, Meru on Sunday, Ruto warned politicians against making reckless utterances which he said might destabilise the country ahead of the August 9 elections.

Kuria, who was the host during the Saturday event, distanced himself from the remarks and asked the DCI  to probe the allegations.
