Manchester United trying to get rid of Sh63m-per-week Chilean flop

The biggest problem facing Manchester United right now is the future of out-of-favour forward Alexis Sanchez.

With a measly five goals to his name after signing from Arsenal in January 2018, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to get rid but a whole host of problems currently face him.

As much as United want to move the forward on, suitors are hard to come by with Roma currently the only club interested.

But it isn’t just a case of Sanchez, who suffered a hamstring injury in early July while playing for Chile in the Copa America, moving abroad. They need to find a club that can afford him but they have struggled to so far.

The willingness to give him £500,000 (Sh 63 million) -per-week on arrival from Arsenal in January 2018 has screwed them over in the long-run.

United have reluctantly accepted they will have to fund part of his staggering £500,000-per-week wages or pay him off if he moves away on loan.

As well as finding it hugely difficult to sell, the hastiness to throw money at Sanchez has messed up the club’s whole wage structure and that was evident from talks with Ander Herrera and David de Gea.

Meanwhile, if United are forced to keep him, the 30-year-old will probably have to settle for a spot on the bench under Solskjaer, who will likely use him in the League Cup, Europa League and FA Cup.

And Solskjaer, who took over permanently at Old Trafford at the end of March, hinted that this would be the case for Sanchez.

When asked if more players could go before the European transfer window closes on September 2, he replied: “There might be, Yes.”   -AFP
