Maraga meets IG Koome as police reforms taskforce hits the ground running
Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome on Monday, January 16, held a meeting with former Chief Justice David Maraga who is leading a taskforce constituted to review the welfare of the police and prison officers.
Maraga paid Koome a courtesy call at the National Police Service Headquarters in Nairobi.
He was accompanied by his deputy Carole Kariuki.
In a statement, NPS said the two leaders agreed on the support and mutual cooperation expected from both sides to "facilitate collection of views from NPS officers on the ground".

Also present were Deputy Inspector General Edward Mbugua, DIG Administration Police Service Noor Gabow, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin and the Principal Assistant to the IG Abdallah Komesha.
The National Taskforce on Improvement of the Terms and Conditions of Service and other Reforms for Members of NPS and Prison Service was established by President William Ruto in December last year.
The Head of State mandated the 21-member taskforce to review and recommend improvement on the terms and conditions of service, identify and recommend legal policy institutional and operational reforms in NPS and KPS, and recommend matters related to police welfare in all cadres of the police force.
Members of the task force include Moffat Kangi, John Ole Moyaki, Ibrahim Guyo, Richard Kirundi, Elizabeth Mueni, Roseline Odede, Joash Dache, Doreen Muthaura, Albert Mwenda, and Terry Chebet Maina.
Others are Hassan Sheikh Mohamed, Capt. (Rtd.) Simiyu Werunga, Mutuma Ruteere, Anne Ireri, Stephen Kayongo, Jafaar Mohamed, Sammy Chepkwony, Khadija Mire.
The team’s joint secretaries are Omwanza Ombati, Joy Mdivo Masinde and Rosemary Kamau.
Police welfare
The police welfare featured prominently on the Kenya Kwanza Alliance's campaign promises.
The Kenya Kwanza team led by Deputy President Riagthi Gachagua promised that Ruto's government would effect a raft of reforms in the police service to better the welfare of the men and women in uniform.
Gachagua vowed to spearhead a revision of the salaries and wages of the officers, which he said have stagnated since the end of President Mwai Kibaki's tenure as well as scrap the new blue police uniform.
