Ministry to release Form One placement list today
Candidates who sat for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) will from this morning know what secondary schools they will join in January when the school calendar resumes.
The selection process commences by focusing on those who scored over 400 marks and primed to join the over 130 national schools of their choice.
A total of 9,770 candidates scored 400 marks and above, which was a drop from last year’s 11,559.
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha is expected to release names of those selected to join national schools.
Selection process
Once selection for national schools is completed, government will embark on selection for extra-county schools followed by county and then Sub-County schools. Selection in the regions will be undertaken in 11 different designated areas.
“The ministry has developed water-tight criteria to ensure the process is fair, objective, transparent and in keeping with all forms of meritocracy.
I assure all candidates that by December 2, they will have known which schools they will go to and parents will have enough time to prepare their children for high school enrolment, they will not spend all their money on Christmas,” Magoha said.
About 10,000 secondary schools are expected to accommodate 1,083,456 pupils who sat their exams, whose capacity has been expanded to ensure 100 per cent transition policy is covered.
In as much as more national schools have been created, a majority of candidates have been fighting out to join the traditional 18.
Top five candidates of either gender from every sub-county are expected to be placed in national schools, based on choices they made where possible.
The selection process kicked off immediately KCPE results were released, with a technical team of officials from Ministries of Education and Information and Communication (ICT) retreating to Naivasha to undertake the exercise.
The team was expected to ensure water-tight criteria is developed, including setting quota and an acceptable formula, which will see fair placement to secondary schools, candidates who sat for this year’s KCPE.
Magoha assured that measures have been put in place to fulfill the 100 per cent transition policy next year.
