Mlango Kubwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Patricia Mutheu is now demanding that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) prioritise her evidence against officers caught on camera assaulting her.

Mutheu who spoke yesterday after recording a statement at the Central Police Station said police without any provocation, caused her grievous harm and assaulted her.

Through lawyer Cliff Ombeta, Mutheu also asked the IG to accept liability for what the officers did to her.

Ombeta said police brutality has been the trend recently even after the IG promised to root out such behaviour.

Handled by DCI

“Our matter is being handled by the DCI; we are hoping that Mutheu will also record a statement with the IPOA as well.

They should come to her as she has good details of who the officers are,” he said.

“We want the police officers in question to be removed from police service immediately arrested and charged with assault that has caused grievous harm to our client without provocation,” he said.

The MCA said they cannot accept a police force that keeps on relying on brutality when dealing with Kenyan citizens.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i announced that the interior ministry will seek further guidance from the National Security Advisory Committee (NSAC) on how to police the Nairobi County Assembly.
