Modern Coast customers seek State intervention

Would-be passengers affected by the Modern Coast Bus travel ban now want the government to intervene and help them recover their money from the company.
Following suspension of the licence by National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Modern Coast had promised to refund money to all affected passengers via M-pesa starting December 16, 2019.
However, as per yesterday, the promise was yet to be fulfilled according to those interviewed.
Meanwhile, six Modern Coast buses headed to different destinations that include Nairobi, Kisumu and other parts of rural Kenya from Mombasa, were on Tuesday night intercepted at Mariakani and Voi areas, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.
The buses were seized after NTSA said on Tuesday it had not given the transporter the green light to resume operations following the revocation of their licence last Friday.
“Four buses that had reached Voi from Mombasa were ordered to discontinue their journeys, leaving at least 200 passengers stranded. The buses’ drivers were ordered to drive back to their Mombasa station,” Voi Traffic Base Commander, Michael Maina, said.
