Mombasa businessman-cum politician Farid Swaleh is dead.

Swaleh died on Sunday, June 26, 2022, the Democratic Action Party (DAP) has confirmed. People Daily Digital couldn't immediately establish the politician's cause of death but reports indicate he died at his home in Nyali.

Until his death, Swaleh served as the DAP party's Coast region coordinator.

"We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing on of Farid Swaleh our party's Coast region coordinator. Swaleh has enabled DAP-K's growth across the Coastal counties and we are forever indebted to him. May Allah Rest his Soul in eternal Peace," DAP said in a statement.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugine Wamalwa, who is associated with the DAP party, eulogised the deceased as a hardworking and progressive leader who will be remembered for championing the well-being of the coastal people.

"Profoundly saddened with the news of the sudden loss of my brother Farid Swaleh. He was not only a great close family friend for a very long time, loving and cherished by many but also very hardworking, progressive, and resourceful in championing society well being," Wamalwa tweeted.

Prior to defecting to DAP, the deceased served as the Jubilee party's Coast region coordinator.

Swaleh took a stab at the Mombasa senatorial seat on a Jubilee party ticket in the 2017 polls but lost to Senator Mohammed Faki of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

He was appointed as a board member of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) in 2019.

Prior to his appointment, Swaleh was the director of Kenya Shipping Line Agencies.
