Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa was yesterday forced to apologise to Nairobi county Woman Rep Esther Passaris for allegedly insulting and threatening her.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, asked Barasa to withdraw statements made last Thursday when he not only referred to Passaris as “stupid” but also threatened to punch her in the face.

The MP ate humble pie and said: “I apologies to Hon Passaris and withdraw my remarks. I equally invite her for dinner today at 7.30pm”.

Express regret

The Speaker’s sentiments came after Passaris raised concern that Barasa had insulted and threatened her during House proceedings.

“Mr Speaker, please advise on next cause of action because a Member here insulted me and even threatened to punch me,” she pleaded.

Muturi’s decision came in the wake of a press conference by female MPs on Monday, who expressed regret that incidences of violence against them are still witnessed in Parliament.
