Mudavadi to represent Ruto in Mnangagwa’s inauguration in Harare

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to leave the country on Sunday, September 3, 2023, for a two-day official visit to Zimbabwe.

During the visit, Mudavadi will represent President William Ruto at the inauguration ceremony of newly elected Zimbabwean President Emerson Mnangagwa slated for Monday, September 4.

"The Prime Cabinet Secretary will represent Dr William Ruto, C.G.H, President of the Republic of Kenya at the Inauguration Ceremony of Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa, President-elect of the Republic of Zimbabwe who was re-elected in the just concluded general election. The swearing-in ceremony will take place in Harare on Monday, September 4th, 2023 at the National Sports Stadium," Salim Swaleh, director of press service at the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary said in a statement.

"On behalf of the government and the people of Kenya, H.E President William Ruto congratulates President-elect, H.E Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa on his re-election for the second term. Furthermore, H.E President William Ruto commends the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe for peacefully exercising their constitutional right during the election process."

Mnangagwa won the August polls according to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, beating his challenger Nelson Chamisa of the Citizens Coalition for Change party by about 380,000 votes.

Mnangagwa, who took over from Robert Mugabe after a 2017 army coup, garnered about 53 per cent of the total vote while Chamisa secured 44 per cent of the vote.
