Murang’a health facilities to spend revenue at source

Public hospitals in Murang’a will use revenue generated at source to procure medical supplies in a raft of changes introduced to streamline the health sector.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata (pictured) said he is implementing a policy on Facilities Improvement Funds where suppliers who serve the hospitals will be required to register in the portal so they can get orders to make supplies when need arises.

This, he said, is aimed at curbing wastages and inefficiencies in procurement of medical supplies taking into account hospitals will spend money at the source.

“All revenue collected in the hospitals will remain at the facilities to be used in procuring various supplies when need arises,” he said.

He admitted there has been a challenge in procuring drugs and other supplies for hospitals, adding that the new structure will solve the problem.

He said with automation of the payment services public hospitals will help keep a track of the money each department collects and it will be used to procure medical supplies.

In addition, the governor said pay points have been established in every department to ease congestion at the major pay point. He said there has been an outcry from the public of the delays at the cash point as people queue to make the payments for various services. Kang’ata on Monday announced that at every service point, there will be cashiers to help patients make required payments without going back and forth.
