Renowned British super model Naomi Campbell is in the country.

Campbell landed at the Malindi Airstrip on Tuesday at 10.30pm in a private jet and headed straight to the exclusive Lion in the Sun Resort owned by her former boyfriend, Italian billionaire Flavio Briatore.

Stephanie Ravessoud, resort’s General Manager, confirmed Campbell will be holidaying in Malindi throughout the festive season, promising to give details on the model’s itinerary later.

“Right now she has to rest. We  cannot give any information at the moment, but we will as soon as possible,’’ he said.

However, sources at the resort revealed that the model planned to visit several tourism sites and orphanages during her stay in the country.

This is her third trip to  Kenya. Celebrity’s visit is likely to provide a major boost to the tourism sector, which is still reeling from the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Campbell is among many international celebrities who frequent Malindi. She  last toured the country  last year  for a photo-shoot for British Vogue.

Supermodel is the first Black woman to appear on the cover  of the Vogue. She is also the first black model to feature on the cover of the Time Magazine. Campbell is also known for appearances on TV series like The Face and Empire.

She started her modeling career at the age of  15. She was born on May 22, 1970, in London.

The daughter of a Jamaican-born dancer and an unnamed father, Campbell attended Dunraven School and the London Academy for Performing Arts as a youngster.

Greatest success

Following her rise to fame as a model, Campbell pursued acting and music careers, enjoying her greatest success with the latter in Japan.

Her singing career peaked with the 1994 hit “Love and Tears.” Though her debut album Baby Woman sold over one million copies, it was a critical flop.

An ambitious businesswoman, Campbell launched a line of fragrances for women in 1999 and the lifestyle-branding and event-planning firm NC Connect in 2002.
