Clergy praise ex-President Moi as a strong Christian

Church leaders who worked closely with retired President Daniel arap Moi yesterday eulogised him as a firm believer who rarely missed church on Sunday.
They were speaking at his Kabarak home during his funeral service.
“He read the bible throughout his life. He started his Christian journey in 1934 and was baptised in 1936.
He walked with the word of God till his death, ” retired Africa Inland Church Bishop Silas Yego, who delivered the main sermon, said.
Yego said Moi was prepared for his death.
“Mzee Moi told me that my journey to heaven had started and he requested me to pray for him. He was so prepared,” the bishop revealed.
He said that one time before his death, Moi summoned Kabarak University Vice Chancellor Kiplagat and entire Kabarak community and told them that he was “ready to go home”.
Coup prayer
Power of Jesus Around the World Church Archbishop Washington Ogonyo Ngede revealed that during the 1982 attempted coup by a section of Kenya Air Force soldiers, President Moi called him and asked for prayers.
“He told me I need your prayers. I knelt down prayed and called back telling him that by ‘midday tomorrow you will be back in leadership’,” he told mourners.
Retired Anglican Archbishop Eliud Wabukala described Moi as a great leader who sought God’s intervention before making important decisions.
Wabukala, who is the chairman of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission said Moi helped the country to understand interface between spiritual and secular world.
Bishop Arthur Gitonga of the Redeemed Gospel Church said that Moi loved to help the poor and urged politicians to emulate his example.
“Let’s follow in his footprints and we will see peace and tranquility in Kenya,” he said.
