The Public Service Commission (PSC) has shortlisted 14 candidates for position of the University of Nairobi vice chancellor.

Acting Vice Chancellor Isaac Mbeche is among the candidates shortlisted following review of 18 applications.

The university council appointed Mbeche in July after it rejected the then VC Peter Mbithi’s bid for an automatic reappointment for a second term.

Also shortlisted for the December 18 interviews include former Deputy VC (Finance) Bernard Njoroge, who was kicked out in 2016 after falling out with Mbithi, and two DVCs Madara Ogot and Kiama Gitahi.

Others  are Lukenya University VC Maurice Amutabi, Kibabii University DVC Solomon Igosangwa Shibairo and University of Kabianga DVC Elijah Omwenga.

Gitahi is the acting DVC in charge of Human Resource and Administration at the University of Nairobi, a position he has occupied since February.

The commission added that following the conclusion of the shortlisting it had published the names of the candidates as well as the interview schedule.

PSC called on members of the public to provide comments on the shortlisted candidates.

“… a call for public participation requesting for comments on any of the shortlisted candidates,” part of the notice read.

PSC under the Universities Act 2012 and the statute Law Act 2018 declared a vacancy in the office of the VC on October 29.

“The Commission then proceeded to advertise, receive applications and to process the applications received culminating in the shortlisting of the qualified candidates,” PSC said.
