Kakamega Senator Cleopas Malala has vowed to bring to the Senate an impeachment motion against Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, who he accused of sabotaging President Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacies and Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Malala said he will draft the motion against Murkomen who he said has shifted his loyalty to Deputy President William Ruto to the extent of opposing the BBI agenda, a legacy project of the President.

“I will draft impeachment motion and table it at the Senate once we resume as we cannot trust him with promoting and protecting the President’s agenda,” he said.

The senator vowed to lobby parliamentarians to also kick out the President’s saboteurs holding key positions as a way of streamlining the parliamentary committees to actualise Uhuru Kenyatta’s agendas.

Key positions

Malala was reacting to comments by Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi, who asked the President to act and replace Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale, Murkomen and other DP allies holding key positions in Parliament and Senate.

“We will not allow those meant to promote and defend the President’s position to attack and undermine it,” Malala said at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Saturday.

Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, a close ally Uhuru, has hinted of a plot to institute changes in a Facebook post.

“The leadership of the House—the Majority Leaders, Whips etc—in both National Assembly & Senate were nominated by the Jubilee Party to champion the President’s agenda in the house—strictly —as the President articulated in the first Jubilee PG on 30/8/2017.”

He said those opposed to the President had been given notice to “pack & leave that office, before February”.

Party affairs

However, according to the Standing Orders, the removal of a Majority Leader or Minority Leader or any other leadership posts are party affairs that happen outside the House and communicated to the House through respective Whips.

Upon a decision being made by the Majority Party or coalition under this Standing Order, the decision of the party or coalition shall be communicated to the Speaker in writing, together with the minutes of the meeting at which the decision was made.

In the case of the removal of the Senate Majority Leader or the Deputy Senate Majority Leader, the Senate Majority Whip will communicate and in the case of the removal of the Senate Majority Whip or the Deputy Senate Majority Whip, the communication will be done by the Senate Leader of Majority.
