NCIC summons Kapseret MP Sudi over Mungiki resurgence remarks
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) summoned Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi over remarks he made at a press conference in Uasin Gishu County last week.
Sudi claimed to have reliable information that members of the dreaded Mungiki sect were to be sent to the Rift Valley by Nominated MP Maina Kamanda to ignite ethnic tensions.
According to Sudi, the alleged plot by Kamanda and other individuals to finance Mungiki was to cause chaos.
“My intention in revealing the alleged Mungiki plan was to let those behind it know that we are aware of the plot,” he said at a press conference in Eldoret.
He also alleged that allies of Deputy President William Ruto were being threatened and intimidated.
Sudi told journalists he offered to present himself at the commission headquarters in Nairobi to clarify issues based on the summons contained in a letter dated June 10.
“Whereas the NCIC is investigating utterances you made within Uasin Gishu County: “....tunajua na wanajijua wale wanaopanga mambo ya mungiki, wanapanga ya kwamba wanataka watume mungiki wakuje eneo hili letu ili wafanye jambo yenye haifai alafu wabadilishe isemekane ni wakalenjin na wakikuyu wameanza kuzozana kwa sababu ya siasa...kuna wakora wamepanga ya kwamba watatuma mungiki wakuje eneo hili, so sisi tuko alert kabisa na tunajua iyo mipango yenu mmepanga...”
The said words were calculated to be hateful and likely to affect harmonious co-existence between the Kalenjin and Kikuyu ethnic communities contrary to section 13 (1) (a) of the NCIC Act,” the letter by the Commission acting secretary, Millicent Okatch said.
