Nyamira County Government has established a medical scholarship to help bright students from poor background to pursue various courses in the medical field.

The fund will cater for deserving students at the Kenya Medical Training College students (KMTC) and will be managed by the county in collaboration with college national office administration.

Making the announcement, Governor Amos Nyaribo (pictured) said his government will from next month set aside Sh24 million to pay school fees for the first 300 students.

He said each of the 20 wards will be allocated 15 slots . “The Sh24 million could be factored in our Supplementary Budget and we have already made elaborate plans with our County  Assembly Members to approve them because it’s a noble, magnitude and viable project,” Nyaribo told a delegation of KMTC from the national office led by the chairman Dr Zachary Mwita and chief executive Kerry Oluoch.

KMTC management also challenged the county leadership to assist in the improvement of infrastructure at the local college so as to create space for the introduction of more courses.

“Sir as KMTC, we can only introduce more courses in Nyamira, if your government assists us to address the infrastructure challenge we could take advantage and recruit more tutors from the county thus creating job opportunities,” Oluoch told the governor.
