New twist in AP shooting as it emerges his killers knew him
The fatal shooting of an Administration Police officer and a taxi driver in Ruaka, Kiambu, took another twist yesterday with claims the officers who shot him dead were no strangers to him.
Other reports indicate there was no shootout as earlier reported and the slain officer’s firearm was only removed from his waist after he had been killed.
To justify the shooting, an officer is said to have fired several rounds in the air using AP Constable Daniel Etiang’s gun.
“The officer who lay injured was finally shot by a woman believed to be a police officer and was dressed in civilian,” claimed a resident of Ruaka.

Etiang was armed with a Jericho pistol Serial No. KE AP 43368733 which police headquarters confirmed belong to the AP Service.
A team of detectives on Sunday and yesterday went back to the scene but a senior police officer yesterday dismissed reports that there were attempts to interfere with the CCTV at the residence.
A brief to the police headquarters had indicated officers from Kiambaa under the command of the Sub County Criminal Investigation Officer (SCCIO) proceeded to Ruaka Courtyard Complex claiming they had received information of a planned attack.
The targeted victims were two Nigerians, according to the brief to the Police Headquarters. The local DCI said they went to the residence where they found the “robbers taking position within the compound.”
He further said they challenged the suspects who defied the orders and instead started shooting at the officers. As a result, a shootout ensued and the two were shot dead.
The slain officer’s colleagues have called for a thorough and independent probe.
Investigation is expected to establish where the officer and the taxi driver were going, and whether they were going to collect money from the Nigerians, as alleged.
Critical in the investigations is whether the officers were justified in using such force, by firing about 20 rounds of ammunition.
Car detained
Kiambu County police commander Ali Nuno identified the deceased as an officer and Galgalo Hussein Wako, a taxi driver. The car they were using, a Toyota Vitz , is also detained by the police.
The deceased officer, described by his colleagues as a decorated officer and a sharp shooter, had been attached to former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo and was currently attached to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority’s chief executive.
“Etiang was a teetotaller who never quarrelled with anyone. Sad that he was killed few metres from his residence,” said a colleague.
