Oilers keen to add KCB to list of casualties in floodies final

Menengai Oilers lived up to their promise of claiming yet another major scalp in the BLAZE Impala Floodlit tournament after beating Kenya Harlequins in the semi-finals to set up an exciting final against defending champions KCB.

Having downed hosts Impala Saracens in the quarter-finals over a week ago, Oilers continued from where they left as they silenced Harlequins 30-21 to book a place in the final.

Gibson Weru’s side has been on an upward trajectory especially after reaching three finals in the National Sevens Series and they are capable of pulling another upset against KCB. 

The bankers stormed to the final after beating Homeboyz 38-14 in the other semi-final.

Oscar Sorano scored the opening try before Rocky Aguko added the second, which was converted, to give Curtis Olago’s boys an early lead which they held on until the final whistle.

Saturday’s final will be preceded by the Plate finals that will see hosts Impala Saracens, who beat Nakuru Top Fry 23-21, take on Nondies, who won 29 -20 against Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad.

In the varsity category, University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine overcame Catholic Monks 17-12 to set up a final encounter with Strathmore University Leos, who beat USIU-Africa 40-27 with a brilliant 80th minute try from Isah Wafula.
