One year down the line, Kadenge’s family yet to receive promises made
One year after the demise of Kenya’s most celebrated soccer ace, Joe Kadenge, his family and the entire soccer fraternity are yet to witness any of the pledges made in his honour.
The burial of the former football legend attracted leaders of all walks of life with baskets full of promises that are yet to be delivered just after one year since the soccer legend was laid to rest in his home.
Family member Evance Kadenge says many of the promises to his family and the football fraternity have not been fulfilled as they start preparing for the first memorial ceremony.
“We want to appreciate all those who stood by the family and gave support in one way or another.
However, we can’t complain a lot about the unfulfilled promises as we believe it is something done out the heart.
As a family, we have arrangements that will see us through and keep the name of the late alive for the sake of many generations to come, as we continue to assess the Covid-19 situation at the moment praying that things will return to normal,” he said.
He added: “The family is fully focused. My only prayer to is to urge those who promised to support sporting activities to do so and aid football as a way of honouring Joe who did a lot for the local football.”
Former Kenyan international Fred Serenge who also served on the funeral committee revealed that he is so much surprised and disappointed with the leaders who took advantage of the funeral to further their political interests.
“Apart from the new bus that was recently allocated to AFC Leopards as promised by Eugene Wamalwa we have not witnessed any other development in terms of many other pledges and promises from the leaders who attended the burial.
“There was a call to rename some of the national soccer stadiums City Stadium being included in honuor of the late Kadenge but up now nothing has been done, no concern from the relevant authorities right from county to national levels.
“Youths in the western region are still waiting for the mega soccer tournament that was promised with some politicians pledging to donate funds to support this inter-county soccer tournament that would be a good platform for the local talent,” former Tusker and AFC Leopards player added.
During the burial of the late Joe Kadenge many leaders promised support right from the family to the entire soccer fraternity but all these remain a dream.
