Oparanya, wife arrested
Former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and his wife Priscillah Oparanya have been arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Confirming the arrests, EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi said that they had been arrested over corruption and economic crimes committed during his tenure as Kakamega Governor.
They are currently before detectives at EACC Integrity Centre Police Station, Nairobi.
In a statement, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party said no information had been given about the arrest.
"Our DPL (Deputy Party Leader) Wycliffe Oparanya has been arrested by officers from the DCI. Oparanya together with his wife Madam Priscillah are currently at the EACC offices at Integrity Centre. No information has been given as to why they have been arrested and why they are being questioned," ODM stated.
People Daily Digital understands that the alleged corruption cases could involve at least Ksh1.3 billion.
