A Kirinyaga Akorino pastor who pleaded guilty to defiling and impregnating his two teenage daughters in Ndia, Kirinyaga county will now spend over a century behind bars for the offense.

Appearing before Baricho Senior Principal Magistrate Anthony Mwicigi, the 51-year-old man was slapped with a 70-year jail term for sexually assaulting each of the girls.

“l have considered the mitigation by the convict and l find that the offences he committed to his own daughters are serious. I hereby sentence him to a 70-year jail term,” ruled the magistrate.

“This court orders that your names be added in the register of convicted and dangerous offenders,” the magistrate added.

The sentences will run consecutively, meaning he will serve 140 years behind bars. The convict now has 14 days to appeal the jail term.

Impregnating daughters

On January 5, he pleaded guilty to the offence of defiling and impregnating his daughters, aged 14 and 16.

Asked whether he was aware that the charges he was pleading guilty to attract a life sentence, he threw in the towel, and gave a walk-over to the prosecution.

He admitted having committed the offences and added: “The two are my daughters and I slept with them and made them pregnant.”

Convinced that the plea of guilt was entered consciously, freely and in clear and unambiguous terms, the magistrate convicted him.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions yesterday said they were satisfied with the sentence.

While seeking a lenient sentence, the pastor blamed the devil for his offences and asked for forgiveness from his children and the court, saying that everybody makes mistakes.

Magistrate Mwicigi however ruled that the pastor had been convicted on his own admission of guilt.

According to the prosecution, the pastor defiled the first girl on diverse dates between June 1 and 30, 2019 while the second girl was defiled between August 1 and 31, 2020 in Kianyakiru village, Ndia constituency.

The prosecution tabled as evidence the medical records for the two minors obtained from Sagana Sub-county hospital where they were examined.

The matter was however later reported to Baricho police station by the area Chief but the suspect on learning he was being sought, went into hiding.

He would later be arrested in Mbeere South from his hideout following the launch of an operation by police in the first week of January this year.

According to the detectives, the suspect fled to Mbeere where he posed as a Somalia herder but the residents became suspicious of his accent and tipped the police.

Currently, the first girl has a seven--month-old baby and the other is six- months pregnant.

The court was also told that after committing the offence, the matter was not reported and the suspect continued living with the girl in the same compound.
