Only two seats will be contested for during Saturday’s Gor Mahia polls to be conducted by the Institute of Chartered Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) through online voting.

This is after long serving chairman Ambrose Rachier and businessman Samuel Ocholla were declared unopposed by the club’s electoral board chairman Henry Ogoye following the deadline of aspirants to declare their interests.

This means that Rachier who has been at the helm of the club for the last 12 years will continue to serve in the same position for another four years, while Ocholla gets the mandate of the club for the Secretary General position for the same period.

The seats that are now up for grabs are vice-chairman’s position that will pit Sally Bollo against city lawyer Francis Wasuna, and the treasurer’s position where Human Resources consultant Dolphina Odhiambo will be rubbing shoulders with Chrispin Okoth.

“We have gone through all the fine-tuning with all teams and it is now our belief that we are ready.

The systems are basically set and we are just about to roll out the logistics. It is simple really; a voter simply needs a smartphone and we will send over voter links for the registered members in which the voter Identification Card numbers will be acting as a password.

Voting exercise will take a maximum of two minutes to vote and in overall five minutes of results display after tallying has been done online, “Ogoye told People Sport in an exclusive interview.

He also revealed that out of the 558 registered voters; only 550 will take part in the one hour exercise with the Board excluded.

Ogoye said the 550 delegates are the only ones who are qualified to vote were the ones who paid the required Sh 1,200 annual subscription before the deadline.

“We have had consultations with all candidates and advised them on ways to conduct their campaigns and lobbying.

From our end, we have scanned the registration list and scrapped off the double registrations so it is clean.

Additionally, we have sent all candidates a list of all the delegates and phone numbers to ascertain the same so that we do not have complaints thereafter,” he said.

Ogoye has given assurance that there will be no compromise in the process adding the final system trial link will be posted on the club website immediately.

There have been murmurs around the credibility of the exercise with the current chairman Ambrose Rachier being criticised by a section of the club supporters of handpicking his favoured team to help drive his agenda. However Ogoye dismissed such as pure imagination.

“We were just appointed by the Executive Committee last year and so we are not aligned to anybody.

We are professionals keen to help take this club to a level of respectability and so we will follow the constitution to the latter.”
