President William Ruto on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, appointed Douglas Kanja Kirocho as the Deputy Inspector-General of the Kenya Police Service and Bruno Isohi Shioso as the Director-General of the Kenya Coast Guard Service.

The former GSU Commandant Douglas Kanja who is now the new DIG Kenya Police Service has replaced Edward Mbugua who retired recently.

The appointment of Kirocho as deputy police IG and Shioso as Kenya Coast Guard Service DG were also gazetted the same Wednesday.

The appointment of the two follows the recommendation of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).

NPSC chairman Eliud Kinuthia on Tuesday handed the report on the recruitment of deputy police IG to Ruto.

The report contained recommendations on the most suitable candidates for appointment as deputy police IG.

The submission happened during an event at the State House.

Kinuthia was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome, NPSC Commissioner Eusebius Laibuta, Deputy Inspector General of Police Noor Gabow, John Moyaki, Alice Otwala and Commissioner Lilian Kiamba.

Senior changes

Ruto, on behalf of the National Security Council, also made other appointments in the senior ranks of the National Police Service.

The president appointed Gideon Munga Nyale as Commandant of the Kiganjo Police Training Institute.

Eliud Kipkoech Lagat has been appointed as the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU) while Ranson Lolmodoni was appointed the Director of Operations.
