Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has urged Kenyans to continue observing government protocols on the prevention of Covid-19 spread.

Speaking at Thogoto PCEA Church of Torch in Kikuyu during the burial of the late Reverend Peter Kania who succumbed to the virus last week, DP Ruto said every Kenyans should take personal responsibility to ward off the virus.

He described the late clergyman as a faith warrior and a national intercessor who prayed for the nation.

"We are here to celebrate the life of a faith warrior, a gospel soldier and a national intercessor and we ask God to rest his soul in eternal peace," said Dr. Ruto.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, who read President Uhuru Kenyatta's tribute, reiterated that for the pandemic to be put under control, every Kenyan should take all the precautionary measures issued by the government.

"We are living in a very difficult time because if it was the normal time, thousands of people would have attended Rev. Kania's send-off. We shall however eventually overcome and the will of God will also prevail," CS Kagwe said.

In the speech read by Kagwe, President Kenyatta said that it is sad and regrettable that the man of God died when his services were badly needed in the country.

He said that the late priest came up with the Adopt a Family philosophy which saw many vulnerable people getting material assistance from well-wishers.

"He was a selfless church leader and I call upon Kenyans and church leaders to emulate him. I also ask God to give the family fortitude to withstand the loss of their father," the Head of State said.

The function was attended by members of the clergy from all of the church's 56 presbyteries with each of them sending one representative.

Also present were MPs Oscar Sudi and Kimani Ichung'wa with the sermon being conducted jountly by  PCEA moderator Rev. Dr.Julius Mwamba and retired Rev. Dr. Jesee Kamau.
