President William Ruto has flown out of the country for a three-day visit to the Union of Comoros and the Republic of Congo.

In a statement, State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed said the President is scheduled to attend the Independence Day celebrations of Comoros.

"On Thursday, July 6, 2023, President Ruto will be the chief guest during the 48th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Union of Comoros, at the invitation of President Azali Assoumani. This visit aims to significantly strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries," Hussein stated,

After the celebrations, President Ruto will on Friday, July 7, commence a two-day state visit to the Republic of Congo.

"He will hold bilateral talks with President Dennis Sassou Nguesso focusing on Kenya-Congo strategic cooperation. The Heads of State will also witness the signing of legal instruments on various bilateral agreements," Hussein added.

"Kenya and Congo enjoy warm and cordial ties built on longstanding friendship and cooperation at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels. The State Visit follows the inaugural session of the Kenya-Congo Joint Commission for Cooperation, which was held by officials from both countries between line 25 and June 27, 2023."

The trip comes amid protest threats from the opposition, with a mega rally scheduled for Friday, July 7, dubbed the Saba Saba.

The Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party on Tuesday vowed to launch what they termed a third liberation during a planned rally at Kamukunji Grounds.

"It is evident that we are dealing with a heartless tyrant who shows no regard for the people. We are determined to rectify this situation. Therefore, we are here to announce that our Kamukunji meeting will take place in Nairobi this Friday, as previously announced," Azimio said in a statement.

"However, this is not just a gathering in Nairobi; it is a nationwide Kamukunji where we will launch the Third Liberation. On Friday, July 2023, we will initiate signature collection campaigns to express our rejection of the illegitimate Kenya Kwanza regime and its punitive tax policies."
