Saboti MP: Hustler v. dynasty narrative is polarizing country
Saboti Member of Parliament(MP) Caleb Amisi has expressed worry over the 'polarization' of the country on class lines through the hustler v. dynasty narrative.
MP. Amisi said the narrative is fueling tribalism that has taken a bad trajectory after some Central Kenya leaders declared that the ODM leader Raila Odinga is not welcome to tour the region.
“It is very barbaric for leaders to declare their region as persona non grata for some leaders just because they don’t agree with their ideologies yet they can choose not to attend their meetings,” said Caleb Amisi.
He noted: “For instance I am not a supporter of the Deputy President but I cannot raise issue whenever he tours my constituency since he has a constitutional right of association just like any other Kenyan.”
He also attributed the hustler narrative to heckling witnessed during rallies by Raila Odinga in Githurai and Mr. Ruto at Burma in the week saying the vice should be contained in time.
“We call on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to reign in on leaders who are awakening the ghosts of violence in order to achieve their political ambitions in 2022,” said Mr. Amisi.
The legislator also called for a need to make laws that will bar a sitting president from speaking their vernacular language while addressing the country or any part of the country to promote nationalism.
“We need tough laws that promote nationalism and not fragmentation of the country into tribal regions. A president should not articulate his or her government’s agenda in his vernacular language,” he said.
